December 1861, 309 families came across the Black Hill in to the St. George Valley.  Some say that the group paused for a short time on the top of the Black Hill while a baby was delivered which was considered the first Pioneer baby born in the St. George Valley.  Research by some say that babies were not named on the original list.  As in the case of David H Cannon Jr. was born in Salt Lake and at age of 1 yr, came with his parents David and Willy Cannon the original group of pioneers, but is not named with the list of original pioneers coming across the Black Hill that December.
